MFOA Asset Management Roadmap 3.0 – Natural Asset Management Training (AM 404)

Through this advanced, 3-part webinar series municipal staff gained practical knowledge and tools to support the integration of natural assets into asset management planning through targeted training and applied learning opportunities. The series included asset management best practice regarding condition, valuation, and levels of service.

AMCTO Municipal Accounting and Finance Program (MAFP) Textbook – Asset Management Chapter Revisions

The asset management chapter of AMCTO’s Municipal Accounting and Finance Program textbook was updated to reflect current practices, emerging trends, and evolving municipal requirements.

MFOA AMP It Up 3.0: Incorporating Green Infrastructure into Asset Management Planning

Practical workshops blending presentations, hands-on activities, and resources that helped municipalities strengthen their understanding of green infrastructure and explore opportunities to incorporate green infrastructure assets into asset management planning.

Phragmites Cost Benefit Tool: Beta Version

A beta cost-benefit tool was developed in partnership with the Invasive Species Centre to help municipalities evaluate the long-term financial implications of Phragmites management strategies within road rights-of-way.

2025 Municipal Asset Management Webinar Series: How to Comply with the July 1, 2025 Requirements of O.Reg. 588/17

A series of webinars delivered in partnership with AMO provided municipal staff with practical guidance on advancing asset management practices and meeting the requirements of Ontario’s asset management regulation.

Green Infrastructure Asset Management Plan (GIAMP) Review and Recommendations

A review of York Region’s Green Infrastructure Asset Management Plan identified leading practices, implementation opportunities, and recommendations to support future program development.

Getting Across the Finish Line: Asset Management Compliance in 2025

In this half-day virtual workshop, municipal professionals explored practical approaches to achieving compliance with Ontario’s asset management regulation while building a foundation for long-term success. Topics included presenting to Council and integrating asset management into budgeting.

Natural Asset Management Case Study Project - Integrating Green Infrastructure into Asset Management: South Bruce Peninsula

A municipal case study demonstrated how small municipalities can incorporate natural assets into existing asset management frameworks by building internal capacity, providing practical insights and resources for municipalities across Ontario. This project was funded by MFOA.

Asset Management Roadmap 3.0 – Natural Asset Management Training

This introductory 2-part webinar series helped municipal staff build foundational knowledge related to incorporating natural assets into asset management planning and decision-making. Topics included “The First Steps” – an introduction to key concepts and practices, and an overview of lifecycle management costing.

Staying on Track: From Compliance to Impact

In this half-day virtual workshop, municipal professionals came together to explore strategies for moving beyond compliance and strengthening the long-term impact of asset management programs. Topics included annual progress reporting requirements (approaches and examples), maturity assessments, and asset management roadmaps.

2024

Advisory Services (AMP Mentorship and Development)

The AMONTario team provided hands-on support, mentorship, and technical guidance to the team at Drummond/North Elmsley to assist them in completing their asset management plan in compliance with O.Reg. 588/17 requirements, while also building internal capacity for ongoing asset management planning.

Natural Asset Management: Advancing Policy Innovation and Municipal Leadership

On behalf of the Greenbelt Foundation, AMONTario prepared a report to provide municpal councils with practical actions to advance natural asset management within their communities. By focusing on improving the visibility and integration of natural assets in municipal asset management, planning, and decision-making, the report aims to strengthen protection, restoration, and management of natural assets.

Technical Assistance (FCM AMP 4)

Technical assistance, workshops, and coaching supported municipalities across Ontario in strengthening asset management knowledge, practices, and implementation efforts.

Implementing and Operationalizing Asset Management

Support for FCM to provide practical guidance and resources helped municipalities move from planning to implementation by embedding asset management practices into day-to-day operations.

Outcomes Report

Interviews with municipalities across Ontario captured progress, challenges, and opportunities related to asset management implementation, helping inform future sector priorities.

2020

Asset Management Online Platform & Communities of Practice

Virtual learning opportunities, peer networks, and communities of practice supported municipal staff in building asset management knowledge and sharing experiences across Ontario, delivered as part of the Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP, round 3).

Technical Assistance (FCM AMP 3)

Workshops, coaching, and technical support helped municipalities strengthen asset management capacity and advance implementation efforts across their organizations.

Rural Economic Development

This project blended core concepts from asset management and economic development, with a placemaking lens. The approach was collaborative and rooted in design thinking. The overall goal was to support the community team members in developing an innovative cycle tourism strategy that: benefits local community, includes a long-term vision, and fosters economic and climate resilience.
